Please listen to human trafficking survivors

Dear Mr. Eli Savit, Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney,

Please listen to human trafficking survivors and change your sex trade policy!

Besides prostitution being an extremely violent and deadly industry, there’s also research that shows that only 3-5% are in it voluntarily. We ask that your policies serve the majority 95-97% of those who were or are caught in the sex trade through lack of alternatives, force, fraud or coercion. Without question, NO survivor should be prosecuted but those who buy and sell need to be held accountable.

Everyday we work very hard in this movement to make Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County a place where No Human is For Sale.

We urge you to learn from the mistakes that have been made in various countries all over the world that have fully decriminalized prostitution over the past 20 years and move Ann Arbor FORWARD instead of backwards. Ann Arbor has always been ahead of its time. This should also apply to the sex trade policy.

We urge you to help us make Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County a zone free of human trafficking.

Please change the sex trade policy to reflect the Equality Model.

In addition to survivors’ voices, a study by Topos Partnership and Keating Research in 2020 shows that the majority of US voters either oppose or strongly oppose full decriminalization of the sex trade. And notably, voters are open towards the Equality Model.

According to research by Rights4Girls, prostitution is also a racial issue: Sex trade survivors are disproportionately women of color, Child sex trafficking survivors are disproportionately girls of color, Sex buyers are disproportionately white men

We are very open to a dialogue and there to help in implementing the Equality Model in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County.

Kind regards,

No One For Sale In Ann Arbor Team
